Bloom and Bloom Streaks proper use

Hi I have some experience in Unity, but sometimes I just feel like a complete noob... I have a very simple scene with a white background. I'd like to make some of the objects sparkle (they are not directly on the white BG). If I use bloom, the BG blooms like crazy (of course), so can I restrict it to a layer? Even better would be if someone could tell me how to use the bloom streaks script. I assigned it the BlendForBloom Shader that comes with unity, but it also asks for a material. If I use a diffuse, everything is half transparent and incredibly aliased. Which one do I use? The depricated glow worked fine if you know that you can paint your glow map on the alpha channel of the bump map (which seemed obvious to some ppl, not for me though). But I'd like the flares. Bloom is fairly poorly documented and bloom streaks I found nowhere. So in short: how do I make single objects sparkle/glow?
